Mitochondrial membrane potential substrate (MAL3)

Mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) is a crucial indicator of mitochondrial function and is central for the growth, differentiation, and survival of cells. However, no technologies currently exist for noninvasive longitudinal monitoring of ΔΨm in living animals. MAL3 is the only probe that allows quantification of ΔΨm based on ultrasensitive bioluminescent imaging (8). It has been successfully used to quantify changes in ΔΨm upon treatment of animals with polarizers/depolarizers and understanding mechanism of action of novel drugs (9) and nutraceuticals (8)

8.    The validation of this probe has been previously published in Nature Chem. Biol. 2020, 16, 1385–1393
